How Tungsten rings are made and how other materials are incorporated into the rings?

Tungsten rings are remarkable pieces of jewelry in many ways. If you are here to know how Tungsten rings are made, you are here at the right place.

How Tungsten rings are made?

Tungsten rings are made by combining tungsten powder with nickel and carbon. This power is then placed in a high-pressure dye to form a blank. To bind the carbon and nickel with the Tungsten, the blank is fired at 3600 degrees Fahrenheit.

Specifications of Tungsten material:

– The hardest metal on the planet

– Extreme scratch resistance (keeps polishing long-lasting)

– 4x harder than titanium

– 5x harder than steel

– 10x harder than 18K gold.

– The highest melting point of all metals 2780 ° C

– The only metal that has a permanent shine

– Used by the aerospace industry.

The longest-lasting gift with a solid weight that represents commitment, security, and an eternal alliance.

Tungsten rings are twice as hard as steel, 4 times as hard as titanium, and virtually impossible to scratch for a differentiated and long-lasting shine.

For decades, tungsten has been used in mining, in the aerospace industry, NASA feather, and other industries that require a metal with extreme durability and longevity.

Watchmakers were the first to use tungsten as a jewel making bracelets that never scratch. Since then, tungsten has become a modern option emerging as a significant competitor in the jewelry market due to its resilience, strength, and beauty.

What is the composition of Tungsten Rings?

Most of the Tungsten rings are 89% tungsten, 10% nickel, and 1% chromium in addition to their special composition for gold and black tones, also long-lasting and hypoallergenic.

At Altoliveo, we don't use cobalt in our rings. The cobalt alloy is quite common in the market as it is readily available and is substantially cheaper than the nickel alloy.

In the jewelry business, the replacement of nickel by cobalt can generate adverse effects, our rings are completely hypoallergenic because they do not have cobalt in their composition.

Cobalt has adverse effects on the skin and is subject to oxidation as well as silver but cannot be removed by polishing. The nickel alloy is completely safe and chemically inert and will never oxidize.

Some stores say they sell tungsten rings but do not show the exact composition of their pieces by selling inferior material. Even though we don't intentionally recommend trying to damage your ring, tungsten can withstand a lot of abuse.

It is a metal from 8.5 to 9.5 on the Mohs scale second only to the mineral corundum or diamond. This means that the only way to scratch a tungsten ring is by polishing it with a corundum or some diamond abrasive, no metal is harder than tungsten on the entire planet.

What does this mean for you? While you are working you will not have to worry about it while other metals like gold and silver develop in a few months scratches that in a short time will leave their surface opaque and without light. Tungsten will always have a long-lasting, mirror-like shine!

Tungsten Vs. Gold and Silver:

Traditionally, gold and silver were the only options that people considered when buying a wedding or engagement ring or any ring that symbolized an important moment.

Tungsten has become a substitute for this metal due to its long-lasting and mirrored shine and resistant finish. The gold is also shiny but quickly becomes opaque due to its low degree of hardness, with time the gold also begins to bend and deform, leaving its original circular shape. The same occurs with silver that has a similar hardness.

What does my Tungsten ring look like?

At the moment, unless stated on the ring page, the rings sold by Altoliveo, have a mirror polish. Our rings are polished to achieve an exuberant and differentiated shine that lasts indefinitely.

Silver rings look like white gold or silver, but with a slightly darker and more sophisticated tone, they can, however, be easily confused.

The same occurs with the gold version, which is always confused, but they have a superior shine. They don't get black over time.

How gold and black rings are made?

To achieve the desired tone, we use a revolutionary ethic that maintains the golden color for much longer, the element used is the cubic crystalline form of Zirconium dioxide (ZrO2).

This element in its natural form is a very hard metal, very close to the tungsten which is the original metal of our pieces. The functional application of this element would be zirconia nitride, a refractory material of extreme hardness similar to titanium nitride.

In this composition, we also use 18k gold to unite the perfect color and resistance that are seen in the photos. We also use a technique called PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition).

It is a vacuum application technique that ensures an application far superior to that seen in the traditional jewelry market or even in the tungsten jewelry market.

This becomes a great differentiator for our brand. The same technique is used in the application of the black rings. To take care of these rings with the applied tone we recommend distance from highly abrasive products. However, we offer a guarantee on the tone and option of lifetime exchange for any reason for 40% of the value, any other structural alteration of the material is covered by the lifetime guarantee.

Are there any allergies to Tungsten rings?

Most tungsten rings are hypoallergenic, which means that there will be no side effects when wearing the ring. However, if there is another metal in the ring alloy, such as cobalt, there may be an allergic reaction.

The skin normally turns a greenish color, and the ring will start showing signs of chemical change. This can also be dangerous, as the finger could swell inside the ring, making it necessary to cut the ring to remove it.

This is difficult to do with a tungsten steel ring. When buying one of these rings, it is best to make sure that it is as pure as possible, to avoid these side effects.

However, at Altoliveo, we sell only high-quality Tungsten jewelry. You can count on our products!
